Garden

The Monarch Grove Children’s Garden was created in 2005 by a group of parents who revamped an existing California native garden and constructed six raised beds for vegetables and herbs on an unused portion of the school grounds. Over the past four years fruit trees have been planted, a garden shed purchased and a larger worm bin constructed, creating an outdoor classroom.

The Garden is supported financially by the PTA and generous donations from the community. The children have raised funds through plant sales and farmer’s markets. We currently maintain the garden through the support of two volunteer Garden Coordinators whom organize workdays and help facilitate students and teachers utilizing the Garden. We recently were awarded a Garden Grant to take the Garden one step further by implementing a program to educate students in how to prepare fruits and vegetables to create delicious meals.

If you wish to get involved in the garden please contact Jesse Gade at 528-8454 or jgade@slcusd.org. We are looking for a parent to help with lunchtime recycling and composting one day each week (either Mon., Wed., or Fri.). Thanks to all of those families who helped keep the Garden watered and thriving this summer!
